Canvas Course Copy Instructions

This guide demonstrates how to copy a Canvas course and/or a QTI.zip file (a quiz/assessment zip file). 

Important: Courses that were migrated from D2L will not be available for Copy in Canvas until the course checklist review is completed by your IDEAS liaison.

Notes:

  1. You cannot copy a Sandbox course
  2. You can only import from a course in which you have the "Teacher" or "Reviewer" role.
  3. If you import the same course content more than once,  you'll overwrite any existing content. You will not be able to copy the same entire course into your course multiple times as it will be overwritten.

Canvas Course Copy Video Instructions

Step-by-Step:

  1. Navigate to SPC's instance of Canvas and open the destination course (the course you want the content copied into). 
  2. Select Home from the Course Navigation.

  3. Select Import Existing Content from the menu on the top righthand side of the screen.

  4. From the Select Content Type dropdown menu (1), Select Copy a Canvas Course (2) OR QTI .zip file (3).

    1. For Course Copy: Select Copy a Canvas Course from the Select a course dropdown menu. From here, there are two methods to search and select. 
      • Use the Select a course dropdown menu to scroll available courses and select.

      • Use the Search for a course search box to type in the course code. You need to type in the course code+catalog number with no spaces. For example: CGS1100, ENC1102. If you'd like to search for a specific section, use this format: CGS1100_590.

    2. For QTI .zip file, select QTI .zip file from the Select Content Type dropdown menu, and choose your file. You can choose a Default Question bank at this point, but this step is optional.

  5. Under Content, select All content (to copy all content from the course) or select Select specific content. By detault, All is selected.

  6. Select +Add to Import Queue. Once the import is finished, you'll see it listed under Content importas at the bottom of the window.
